Commodities of Empire engages in and promotes through projects, workshops and publications, collaborative and comparative research into the history of commodities, their networks and frontiers, from local processes to global interconnections.
Commodities of Empire is now a collaboration between the Institute of Latin American Studies (ILAS) and the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). It is co-directed by Jean Stubbs (ILAS) and William Clarence-Smith (SOAS), and co-ordinated by Jon Curry-Machado (ILAS). Previous co-director (2007-16) Sandip Hazareesingh stood down in March 2016.
